the idiots guide to cambelt fitting

having spent many years building all sorts of weird engines i was
finnaly asked by a mate to sort his alfa gtv 2.0 ts 16v (1997)

the cam belt had failed
7 inlet valves, 3 followers and a head set later the cambelt now has
to be replaced

first the tensioner seems very small and there are lots of bits of
broken plastic gear in the cover- are these related?

do the marks on the belt correspond to th marks on the pulleys?

how do you set the timing on the balancer?

this engine is a complete pain in the arse to work on and acess is a
nightmare – all thoughts greatfully recieved

164 TS stuck in 1st gear

Hi folks

My 164 TS is stuck in first gear….. no matter how hard I wrestle with
the gear stick I can’t get it into neutral or any other gear.

It feels like the problrm is with the gearbox rather than the gear lever
assembly as there is lots of movement of the gear stick.

Has this or similar happened to anyone else.

I guess I’m going to take the box off to have a look.

Alfa belts..again!

Hi all

Ive read some of the threads concerning cambelts thoroughly but have a
question.

Ive just bought a 3.0 166 with 37,000 miles. Its a great car. But does anyone
know when the cambelt needs to be changed on the 3.0? I read somewhere else
that on 4 cyl engines that it needs to be done at 36 k but what about the 6
cyls?

On a side issue, ive just changed the oil and air filter on the car. I tried
to chnage the oil filter but couldnt! The old filter is on very tight and the
Draper tool that I had did not allow access to the filter – the area in which
its in is bloody restrictive. If any of you service ur own cars do you know
if there a special tool that can be used?

Cheers

Paul

Tiny shocks on my 2.4 JTD

When the engine is not at driving temperature, the car shocks a bit when
in low revs (beneath 2000 rpm)while driving (at "city cruising" speed).
Nothing serious but a bit annoying. On stronger accelerations,
everything is normal.

I’m wondering if this is caused by the air mass meter. The car has
150.000 km and the airmass meter was replaced at about 30.000 km.

Anyone any idea ?

Regards.

Hi
I’m from Croatia, and I need to buy cam locking tool (TB21) for my 2.0 T
