I have a 1998 GTV 2.0TS which has been pretty reliable since I got
it.

One thing that has confused me and I’ve not got to grips with is that
there is an LED on the dash which flashes permanently, whether the
ignition is on or off. This hasn’t been a problem but I haven’t used
the car for a few weeks and the battery is very low. When I jump
started it the indicator lights on the dash were flashing as if the
hazard warning lights were on (which they weren’t).

I tried charging the battery in the vehicle and after 10 hours on an
electronically controllled charger it was still drawing 3 Amps. I
unplugged it overnight and it wouldn’t turn over this morning. I
checked the battery and it only showed 11.1V with no load.

I have taken the battery off the car and am charging it again now – it
initally was taking 6A but it’s dropped down to 3A. I’ll check the
voltage presently, but a couple of questions.

1. Why is the LED flashing all the time? Should it not go off with the
ignition on? Can I do anything about this?

2. Has anyone seen this behaviour of the indicator telltales flashing
when the car is running with a weak battery?

3. Is there any common cause for an electrical drain I can check for?

Started on the 156jtd on Saturday, a whining noise, raising
and dropping with engine revs.

Thought:
"I’ll take it to a man who can on Monday to find out what
it is"

Today, took the dogs for a walk (their mad hour hareing
around the forest) and on the way back stopped at the local
7-11 for a bottle of milk.

No start!
Flat battery!

Green Flag recovery man arrived before the txt from
GreenFlag to tell me he was on his way!

Jump leads, car starts, multimeter on battery, 3/5ths of
bugger all charge going into the battery.

So.  

How much of a dent in the empty wallet is a replacement
alternator likely to be?

Seeing as how it appears to be at the back of the effing
engine, it doesn’t actually look like a DIY job (unless you
happen to have a hydraulic lift in the garage!)

Hi all,
I’ve got feathering of one rear tyre, the offside, only. It’s on the inside
edge. It’s a 156 JTDm, all new Pirellis were fitted a few months ago and the
tread depth is still good apart from this obvious area of wear.

Garage says it’s a trait of Pirellis which is clearly B******s.
Any thoughts?

Anyone have or have a source for a workshop manual for the
147 and/or 2.0TS engine?

I bought one on-line, but it is sketchy and not really
worth the £7 I paid for it!

I know you can get software and cables to connect a laptop to my 156 and
read information about faults etc. I have found plenty on eBay, but what
exactly is required and how much should I be paying?? Obviously I need the
following:

Laptop
Cable
Software

I have the laptop, but what connectors are required on each end of the
cable. Are they old fashioned serial cables, or ‘trendy’ USB devices? What
operating system is best etc etc???
