147 headlamp levelling inoperative

X-No-Archive

Hi

My 2001 147 headlamp levelling doesn’t work. An Alfa dealer has looked
at it and doesn’t think it’s the motors and require more time to "trace
the wiring back". The headlamp position on the Multifunction display
works, the lights just don’t move.

I have noticed that on the nearside unit, the reflector ‘cone’ is much
closer to the the (inner) glass (well plastic) surface than the offside
one. Is this normal?

The fuse is ok, is there anything else I can check? I also get the
"number plate light fail" "Right side light fail", "left side light
fail" message quite often too.

Thanks in advance

Q2

If this is as good as the article implies it should help give Alfa more of a
sporting ‘edge’ over the competition…possibly.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/main.jhtml?xml=/motoring/2006/12/…

Not too sure about the bit claiming Alfa softened suspension for the UK…as
I understand it, the ‘new’ 147 is softer than the original, and that was
more about not wearing out the suspension joints as quickly!

Ross

Valve seats for 2 liter spider

I’m looking for intake and exhaust seats for a 1980 Spider engine.  The
seats are recessed unevenly and I don’t think they can be cut straight.
I want to put them in myself and do a valve job, just for the
experience. Any ideas?

Alfa Aid Marlow and what should I do

Well it’s like this

We’ve just moved offices to Marlow and I can’t help but notice that Alfa
Aid are just round the corner.  I’ve heard of them, but does anyone have
any experience to share?

Secondly we are currently re-profiling our daily transport issues and
one of the possible solutions is to have the 156 fettled.  It’s (AFAICT)
sound in box, body and engine (140k on the clock)

Things that I know need doing:
1) Front suspension creaking is just getting worse and worse.
2) Undertray needs replacing
3) NSR electric window winder need doing
4) Airbag light reset
5) Small dent OSR corner
5) Side trims beginning peel.

If we keep it, it would be nice to have it in good nick, but I’d be
interested to know what that lot is likely to cost, and if Alfa Aid are
any good

TIA

156 Climate control

Hello!

How are we all?  Good!

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

The other day, my 156 started blowing hot air very enthusiastically at
me while driving, with the air controls set as follows:
Temp:20
Air qty: Auto
Other knob: Demist/feet.

Since then, it will only give me a hot air- as if the sensors feel that
the temperature in the cabin is very cold, even when the temp selector
is turned all the way to the left.

I have tried the procedure for putting the cc in ‘manual’ mode and back
from the handbook, to no avail.  The only thing that I can govern is the
amount of hot air (using the middle knob) that I get.

Other info that may be useful:
Alfa 156, 2000, 1,8TS.
Also, the water temperature gauge has been gradually showing a
progressively lower temp (now stabilises around 1/4 of the gauge) for
the last few months.  May be associated with the same problem, possibly not?

I am in Wilmslow, Cheshire, the local dealer, Mangoletsi, is a bit of a
trek, but they seem OK.  Could anyone give me a clue as to what might be
going on, perhaps it’s something I can fix myself, how much it’s likely
to cost?

By the way, is there another option for Alfa repairs near here?

All advice greatly received!

Charlie

Replacing bulbs in air con dials in 147

Evening all.

I have a 2003 147 Sportivo (import – Lusso thingy) that has the 3 basic
manual air con dials rather than the Lusso bioclimate controls.

The problem is that the bulbs that illuminate the dials at night have
now gone in all three dials. Over the last year, they have gradually
died one by one! I want to replace them, but I don’t see any obvious
way of getting behind the dials to change the bulbs.

incidentially, it is only the illumination lights that have blown, and
not the heated rear screen and aircon "on" light – these are working
OK.

Anyone help?

Thanks!

Steve
