Mouldy 156 Interior – Help!

Just been to look at the second hand December 2002 156 JTS that I’ve bought
"blind" from a local car supermarket.
All looks good, except that there are spots of mould on the rear interior
quarter panel, the rear parcel shelf and a few odd spots on the upper part
of the seat back and the roof headlining.

I can’t think what could have caused it, given that I can’t find any damp
areas anywhere. It all seems to centre around the rear offside corner.

Has anyone any similar experience they can share with me? It won’t be a
problem to clean the fabric, but I’m a bit worried about what the underlying
cause may be…..

Thanks,
Graham.

Paging MeatballTrubo the second

Went to see the guy that used to look after all my cars today.  Although
he’s not in the trade anymore, he still has the passion

Currently he has what looks like a *very* tidy 75 TS that he’s looking to
sell on.

White, just been MOTed, aftermarket alloys, interior looks OK.  Not looked
over it with much detail, bit would be happy to if you are interested,
since I am heading down there again next week.

Asking about a grand for it, in East London.

Personally if I could *really* justify another one, I’d buy it like a shot.
 I trust this guy implicity.

I doubt it will be selling in a hurry, but even so, I’m sure he’d keep it
for a bit if you were interested.

Let me know if you want me to give it the once over.  You may need to mail
me since I am not getting time to look on the group as often as I might

146 Pollen and fuel filters

Hi,

Having just purchased a late 1999 146Ti I’m now doing the maintenance rounds
on the car.

Can anyone advise if pollen filters were fitted to this car and if so where
is it / how is it changed ? Also where is the fuel filter located ?

Any help greatfully appreciated

petrol prices

Just received this in my inbox – sounds plausable but i’m not holding my
breath. Interesting concept though!.
Tom

Subject:    FW: Petrol Prices

We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer. Want petrol prices
to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.
Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don’t buy petrol on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to hurt ourselves by
refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a
problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
work. Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think
that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take aggressive
action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers.  With
the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take
action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if
we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
Here’s the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest
oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any
petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.  If they reduce their
prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. However, to have an
impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers.
It’s    really simple to do!! Now, don’t whimp out on me at this
point…keep reading as you know how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!
I am sending this note to at least 20 people (paid my subscription to
rentafriend this month!). If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x
10 = 300)… and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)
and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people,
we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million
get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people
will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed
it…THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this
to 10 people. That’s all. (and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that
take?
If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within One day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted
within the next 8 days!!! I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much
potential, did you! Acting together, we can make a
difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE
HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
RANGE
Action:
It’s easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol
at Shell, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s, Jet etc.  i.e. boycott BP
and Esso, ASDA and Morrison’s are supplied by Texaco!

Setting Radio start-up volume?

I have a Nov03 147 1.6TS, Lusseo with the standard Radio/CD.
Is it possible to set the start-up volume on the unit.
At the moment I always haveto increase the volume when I switch on the unit.
If so, how do you do it?

156 gear knob replacement

Just bought a 2001 Y reg 2.0 156 that some boy racer has put a
well-stupid gear knob in.
How do I go about removing this, and replacing it with either a
"classy" version, or possibly one of Alfa’s own?
Trawled through this site and the replacing options range from "just
pull it off", through "twist and turn" right up to "you need to
hacksaw it off".
Which is right please, since at present I don’t see any way of
removing the ghastly devils-head that glows in the dark currently
sitting in my car.
Thanks all.

Recommendations: UK insurers

Afternoon all!

Hurtling towards insurance renewal time for my GTV TS and wondering if
anyone has any recommendations for insurers/brokers who aren’t too happy to
rip you off on a group 17 car ;-)

Current insurer won’t say how much to renew yet, only that it’ll "… be
into 4 figures…" which was not the news I wanted to hear.

Best deal I’ve found online so far is just shy on £900 – hoping to take that
down considerably.

Thanks in advance,

John
