In the last 2 years my 156 1.8TS has undergone the following
repairs/replacments…
New rear brake calipers (took 6 weeks to come from Italy)
New clutch
New engine management system
New alarm system
New (parts of) wiring loom
New under-engine sheild (…well if it didn’t bounce so much on those twisty
country lanes…)
New sidelight bulbs (both), one brake/tail light, petty perhaps, but I drove
a Renault Laguna for 3 years without changing any bulbs!
New hydraulic fluid pipework (came out last Thursday to a puddle of brown
liquid on the drive and no power steering)
It’s only done 37000 miles. I was prepared for a few minor repairs, it is
an Alfa after all, but all this???
My most pressing problem at the moment is convincing the garage that the
revs drop erratically on hot idle, sometimes to the point of stalling the
engine. They’ve had 3 attempts to cure this… the new engine management
system was their last stab in the dark, to no avail. Anyone else
experienced this? Did it get fixed? HOW??
Despite all this, I still love driving the damn thing, best car I’ve ever
had!
